Fix ’n Flip — One House at a Time!

Imagine pulling together your resources and skills to improve the overall real estate landscape around your community, your town — one house at a time! That’s exactly what Mark Burch and Mike Burdett have been doing for much of the past decade. The two — with a combined 25+ years of experience in real estate, mortgage loans, asset management, short sales & REOs (real estate-owned properties) — have partnered to form MMB Realty Investments, a Maryland company that seeks distressed homes, short sales and REO properties and renovate them to sell or rent. They’re also looking for other professionals, in real estate, mortgage industry, or other trades who may want to invest one way or another.

The fix-and-flip projects make neighbors happy, as most of these homes were poorly maintained or altogether neglected inside and out, creating eye sores for neighbors and drivers-by. Though it may sound simple (think TV shows such as Fix or Flop, Fixer Upper, etc…), it takes market knowledge, connections, and a good team of varied skills and good judgment to select the right properties to flip them into successful, profitable end results.

The role of MMB is to provide a successful way to help those interested get into investing real estate. Its strategy is simple: Buy. Renovate. Sell or Rent & Hold. Repeat. Mark has been involved in real estate since 2002, starting as a loan officer before moving into the building division of First Franklin, where he sold wholesale purchase loans.

When the housing market crashed around 2008, Mark joined BSI Financial and got into asset management, juggling 100+ listings at any given time, from REOs to short sales. During this time, he became involved in many REOs that needed repairs, giving him the experience that over time, allowed him to master the fix-and-flip trade. Around the same time, Mark noticed that Temple View Capital merged with some ground-breaking lending opportunities. He signed on and is currently creating lending avenues to new investors and experienced brokers who want to use Temple View Capital products. Loans to fix & flip, and other lending options such as Debt Service Coverage (DSC), rental loans and ground-up construction are some products that provide the cash flow necessary for faster flips. Mark not only helps investors, brokers and lenders obtain TVC loan products, but he also uses them to fund his own fix-and-flip projects and buy-and-hold rentals.

His partner, Michael, is an experienced real estate professional licensed in Maryland and Washington, D.C. With nearly 10 years of experience, Michael leads The Burdett Group of Rosselle Realty Services, Inc., a team of 8 agents based in Sandy Spring. He has experience in every type of real estate transaction including luxury home sales, listing & selling REO properties and short sales, analyzing & selling investment properties, rental portfolios and fix-and-flip properties.
